Is it a City or a Federal Pothole?

De Moss Parking Lot Repairs

Over the past several months, after each trip to the US Post Office (USPS) at De Moss and Rookin, I have become increasingly appalled by the parking lot at the facility. Calls from constituents confirmed my concerns. I recently visited the site to speak with post office representatives about the state of disrepair. Officials at the facility told me they thought the parking lot was City-owned property, leased to the postal service. Needless-to-say, I was surprised to hear that theory.

The District J staff immediately began to investigate the issue, to ensure speedy repairs. After numerous phone calls and inquiries, it was finally confirmed by both City and USPS officials that the City has no connection to the property. The parking lot is wholly owned by the federal government.

Following upon the District J staff’s inquiries, I understand that USPS has obtained a work order to have the parking lot repaired. A contractor has been assigned, and should be on-site soon in preparation of the work. Please feel free to join me in contacting US Representatives Al Green and John Culberson to politely express your concerns or request further information.

Thank You,

Pre-Engineering Fondren From 59 to Braeswood

Many of you have seen much-needed concrete panel replacement projects occurring along Fondren, just south of 59. While this general maintenance is long overdue, the Public Works Department has announced that it will begin pre-engineering for the portion of Fondren situated between 59 to S Braeswood. Public Works is pursuing this course of action following requests from the District J office.

“Pre-engineering” is the first crucial step to move the project into the City’s Capital Improvement Plan. All candidate projects are scored based on need and cost-benefits, with higher scoring projects being added to the CIP. This study will be completed in time for any resulting Candidate Projects to be considered during the FY2017 – 2021 CIP.
