Travel Advisory: Arrive Early at Houston Airports

Because of the ongoing federal government shutdown, Houston Airports is encouraging all travelers to arrive early and allow extra time for security screening at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) until further notice.

On Wednesday, Nov. 5, TSA wait times could be longer than usual, 45 minutes at IAH and 20 minutes at HOU. Even though Wednesdays are typically lighter travel days, the shutdown may affect operations from one day, or even one shift, to the next.

What travelers should know:

  • At IAH, TSA checkpoints are open at Terminals A and E. TSA PreCheck and CLEAR remain available at both terminals.
  • At HOU, fewer screening lanes are open, but TSA PreCheck and CLEAR are available at both.
  • United Airlines passengers should check bags at Terminal C then head to Terminal E for security (you can walk or take the Subway). United does not have a ticketing counter at Terminal A.
  • The Subway connects all five terminals before security, and the Skyway connects gates after security.
  • A limited TSA lane at Terminal C is available for travelers with mobility needs, but because it can’t handle high volumes, it’s not being widely promoted.
