Keep Up With What’s Happening in our Community

Dear District K Friends:

As summer arrives and families across our community begin enjoying longer days, neighborhood gatherings, and time with loved ones, I am reminded of the importance of continuing the work that keeps District K moving forward.

Throughout this month’s newsletter, you will find updates on several important issues impacting our community, including ongoing efforts to address flooding concerns ahead of Hurricane Season along West Airport Road, information about the recently approved FY2027 City Budget, new ways to participate in City Council meetings, upcoming community engagement opportunities, and resources available to residents and local organizations.

Our office remains committed to listening, engaging, and working alongside residents to find solutions that strengthen our neighborhoods today while preparing for the future. Progress takes partnership, and I am grateful for every resident, community leader, organization, and City department that continues to help move our district forward.

As always, your voice, participation, and continued partnership remain essential as we work together to strengthen the quality of life across all things within District K. Please know that we are hoping this encourages you to stay informed, engaged, and to continue showing up.

In Service,
Martha

District K in Action

District K Delivers Results: South Post Oak & West Bellfort Cleanup

Following concerns raised by District K residents regarding overgrown vegetation, litter, and overall maintenance conditions at the I-610 connector ramps and medians along South Post Oak Boulevard and West Bellfort Avenue, the District K office took immediate action.

Through the leadership of Chief of Staff Perdita Chavis and the coordinated efforts of Constituent Services Director for Field Operations Eric Goodwine, the District K HOT Team partnered with the City of Houston Public Works Roads and Bridges Team to facilitate a comprehensive cleanup of the area.

The maintenance work was completed this month, resulting in significant improvements to the appearance and safety of the intersection.

This location is maintained on a twice-yearly cycle, and District K will continue monitoring conditions and advocating for ongoing maintenance efforts.

Additionally, the office is coordinating with the Houston Police Department to address concerns related to vagrancy and improve the overall quality of life in the area.

Thank you to the residents who brought this matter to our attention. Your engagement helps us identify community needs and work toward meaningful solutions across District K.

District K Infrastructure Update: West Airport Drainage Improvements
West Airport Drainage Improvements

Storm Drainage Improvements Coming to West Airport Boulevard

For far too long, residents along West Airport Boulevard have experienced recurring flooding concerns that have impacted daily travel, neighborhood accessibility, and overall quality of life.

We are pleased to share that drainage improvements are on the way.

Houston Public Works has issued a work authorization under the FY2026 Local Drainage Program to perform storm sewer drainage improvements along the 6000–6100 block of West Airport Boulevard. Construction is scheduled to begin in the coming months.

These improvements represent an important step toward addressing long-standing drainage challenges in the area and improving infrastructure for residents and businesses.

District K remains committed to advocating for projects that enhance public safety, reduce flooding concerns, and strengthen the resilience of our neighborhoods.

We thank the residents who have continued to raise awareness about this issue and appreciate their patience as this important work moves forward.
