Sims Bayou Mural Unveiling

Unveiling the newest mural in District K, along Sims Bayou on May 16th was personal. I’m so grateful to everyone that played a part in making the celebration, on what would have been CM Green’s 54th birthday, extra special. I hope the mural will be a constant reminder of his love for District K and Houston. I am honored to carry on the legacy. Legacy is not leaving something FOR people, it’s leaving something IN people!

Windsor Village and Capital One Debt Boot Camp

Congratulations to the 118 individuals that graduated from the Windsor Village and Capital One Debt Boot Camp on May 18th. The participants worked consistently on their financial well-being by improving their credit scores, paying off debt and being intentional about saving money. Financial freedom is available to those who learn about it and work for it!

Sims Bayou Greenway Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting

On June 8th we enjoyed gathering with District K neighbors for a fantastic celebration of the Phase 2 of our Sims Bayou Greenway and Centerpoint Energy recreational trail opening. Let’s get our steps in and enjoy the new scenery in our community. Our office has funded vehicles for HPD to drive the trails to ensure neighbors are able to safely enjoy their time along Sims Bayou.

On The City Council Agenda

District K has received notice from the Public Works and Engineering Departments that more speed cushion applications are moving forward.

Construction of traffic calming devices for the Lakes of Fondren neighborhood are under final review.

This project was funded by the District K Council District Service Fund. We look forward to more traffic calming device installations in the future.

Fort Bend Houston Super Neighborhood Council 41

Congratulations to all of the Fort Bend Super Neighborhood Council 41 scholarship recipients. Education lights dark paths and creates new possibilities. The District K team wishes each of you great success in your educational endeavors.

District K Library Update

Thank you to Houston Public Library Director Rhea Lawson and her Executive team for hosting the District K office and Westbury neighborhood residents on a tour of Houston’s 21st century libraries. We were able to view concepts that now are available such as TechLink and Self-Service Checkout and Return.

As the plans for our new library progress the District K office will host a community meeting for all District K residents to discuss the programming we’d like to see at the library. I encourage everyone to visit Scenic Woods Regional Library (which houses the only full TechLink site), Robinson-West Chase Library (which has a large square-footage), and Young Neighborhood Library (which has an open concept). We look forward to your feedback during the public comment period for this project.

We are looking forward to a more robust facility than the current Meyer Library and Frank HPL Express for residents to enjoy. Library doors are a gateway to anywhere!
