CASE Debates Hosts First Seminar of the Debate Season

Eighty-seven students from 4 districts and 2 charter schools in the Houston area learned about the ins-and-outs of debate while attending the CASE Debates seminar on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Texas Southern University (TSU). The training provided an introduction to World Schools Debate and Policy Debate so that students might explore format options.

Students from the TSU Debate team led CASE Debates students through exercises and gave out tips on the keys to being a successful debater. In addition, legendary TSU debate coach Thomas Freeman made an appearance, giving advice to the young debaters.

This seminar signaled the beginning of the CASE Debates season, which will consist of further trainings, tournaments, and the eventual citywide championship.

2018 Afterschool Providers Fair

CASE for Kids hosted the Providers Fair, on September 18th. The Provider community came out to support this event as vendors, offering their services to the CASE for Kids afterschool community. Fifty-five providers; with services ranging from fencing, art, STEM and character education; networked with community members from a variety of out-of-school time settings. About 100 afterschool program professionals from around the Houston-area attended to explore additional services to offer for their students.

The Providers Fair operated as the exposition for the breadth of CASE for Kids providers’ services, which are highlighted in the 2018-19 Provider Network Guide.

Visit the hashtag #CASEProvidersFair on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for event highlights.
