Brays Oaks Management District representatives pitched in this week to distribute more than 100 free, compact guns safes to residents at the South Gessner police command station, thanks to a program by the City Houston, the Houston Police Department and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, with financial help from Council Member Edward Pollard.

The safes attach strategically to vehicle interiors and come in handy especially when vehicles are empty and would-be car burglars are on the prowl. Gun thefts from vehicles take place thousands of times a year in Houston; it’s time to curb the numbers.

The next thing to watch for is more gun safe giveaways in Houston neighborhoods.
